The Omaha World Herald is seeking a Press Operator Apprentice to join our printing team, which prints many Lee Enterprises, Inc. newspapers for the region. This position will learn and perform all aspects of offset printing working on a Man Roland press as well as performing preventative maintenance. This position learns by shadowing various Journey level press operators throughout their apprenticeship. Press Operators are responsible to:
  • Fill ink fountains
  • Clean ink fountains
  • Help lead webs and sections into the folder.
  • Lift papers from conveyor belts to waste cart, approximately 45 pounds.
  • Clean web detectors
  • Put plates on press
  • Pull waste during press runs when needed
  • Clean and maintain presses
  • Put on printing blankets
  • Set rollers
  • Identify printing defects
  • Report any maintenance problems to Supervisor and\or Foreman
  • Comply with all safety guidelines
  • Other duties as assigned
The successful candidate will be at least 18 years of age, demonstrate a positive attendance record, and have mechanical ability in addition to lifting, bending, crouching, pushing, pulling, twisting, and reaching. This is a night position and pay varies based on experience and a night differential.
