Crime enterprise and breaking news reporter

The Wisconsin State Journal is seeking a reporter who thrives on breaking news, then keeps asking questions after the first draft is written to find the better story.

As a crime enterprise and breaking news reporter, you'll be the news organization's first responder to developing stories, serving as the area's most reliable source of news amid a social media stew of rumor and misinformation. You'll then build on that, providing context and connecting the dots with depth, nuance and clarity to help readers better understand a diverse and rapidly growing community.

You'll encounter a different challenge every day, work with a smart, supportive and easygoing group of colleagues, and live and work in one of the sweetest places on earth.

At least two years of daily newspaper reporting experience is preferred. The ideal candidate will also have some facility in video and still photography. This reporter will work afternoon shifts and some weekends.

To be considered for the position, apply online at www.madison.com/workhere by April 10, 2023. Please include a cover letter and five samples of your work or links to five recent stories.
